| The Barriere and District Heritage Society was formed in 1984 with the mandate to preserve artifacts and record history of the North Thompson Valley from Little Fort (Mount Olie) to McLure and surrounding areas.
In 1987, an Expo Legacy Grant allowed the Society to purchase vacant B.C. Forest Service buildings constructed in 1948. The buildings were occupied until the late 1970's. The North Thompson Museum was established and managed by volunteers of the Barriere and District Heritage Society.
The Society relies on donations, provincial and federal government grants and monies obtained through Enterprise Hall Bingo sessions sponsored by the B.C. Lottery Corporationn.
The museum includes a school room, outdoor shed for antique farm equipment, a trapper's cabin, and a country store display with living quarters attached.
A major production of the society was the history book "Exploring Our Roots", published in November 2004. (see our "News" link for more information on this publication).
Current regular programs include; Demo Days for elementary school children, and assisting local schools during Heritage Week. Our Spring Yarden Sale, Winter Raffle, Open House and Bake Sales are all fund-raising activities.
